***Date Change*** Teach the Teacher Day : 1st Saturday of May
Teambuilding, Orienteering and GPS classes
Teambuilding: This training is for adult facilitators who are interested in working with youth groups in the area of leadership development and team building. Those candidates who successfully complete this full day training will be eligible to use, at no charge, the portable elements at the 4-H Camp when they are part of a rental group over the next calendar year. This training is also open to those interested in learning about team building for outside groups or organizations. (The certification is good for two years) This full day training will be led by Jim Tavares, Director of Lindley G. Cook 4-H Camp.Jim has almost two decades of experience in this field and brings a wealth of knowledge to this program. If you elect to participate in this training, it is a full day training and you will be unable to take the Orienteering or GPS Course.
Orienteering: Brush up on your map and compass skills and learn how to lead your students using one of the two orienteering courses that L.G. Cook 4-H Camp has available, the beginner “poem” course and the more challenging “advanced” course. Our very own Brian"The Bear" Dougan will be leading this activity. Brian is an avid hiker of the Adirondack High Peaks (he is close to completing the elusive 46er club) and has trained countless groups in survival, camping, outdoor cooking and of course, navigating in the wilderness.
GPS: Your students have mastered the map and compass and are ready to use advanced technology as their guide? Then GPS may be for them. The advanced orienteering course at L.G. Cook 4-H Camp is also set up to be used as a GPS course offering a safe location, with natural boundaries, to learn how to properly use GPS units and find set locations with them. GPS units will be available for training day, however, if your group wants to conduct this program during your visit you will need to provide your own GPS units. David Foord, Cooperative Extension Program Associate of Sussex County will be facilitating this program.
